How We Treat
At Osteopathy HQ, we take a hands-on, evidence-based approach to care. Every
treatment is tailored to your body, your condition, and your goals whether that’s
reducing pain, restoring movement, or improving overall function.
Our osteopaths are trained in a wide range of manual therapy techniques that support the body’s
natural ability to heal, adapt and move well. Below is an overview of the treatment methods we may use
as part of your individual care plan.

Note: Not every technique is used in every appointment. Your osteopath will always explain what’s
appropriate for your condition and get your consent before beginning treatment.
Our Treatment Techniques
Osteopathy
(General Manual Therapy)
Osteopathy focuses on how the muscles, joints, bones
and connective tissues work together to support health.
It’s a whole-body approach to treating pain and
restriction through manual techniques, postural advice
and movement-based care.
Benefits may include:
  • Improved mobility and flexibility
  • Reduced muscle tension and discomfort
  • Better posture and movement patterns
  • Support with chronic or recurring pain
  • Holistic management of stress and strain on the body
Soft Tissue Therapy
This includes a range of massage-style techniques that
help relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, and
reduce discomfort. Techniques may include stretching,
kneading, or pressure applied to muscles and fascia.
Often used to:
  • Ease muscle tightness and tension
  • Break down scar tissue or adhesions
  • Improve blood and lymph flow
  • Encourage relaxation
Dry Needling
Dry needling involves the use of very fine, sterile needles inserted into tight or sensitive muscles (known as trigger points). This helps release tension and improve local blood flow. It is a modern, evidence-informed technique and is different from traditional acupuncture.
May be used to:
  • Reduce muscle pain and tightness
  • Improve mobility and flexibility
  • Help manage sports or overuse injuries
  • Relieve referred pain and muscle spasms
Taping (Rigid & Kinesiology)
Taping involves applying specialised tape to the skin to support injured muscles or joints without restricting movement. This can be helpful during recovery, activity or in correcting movement patterns.
Used to support:
  • Joint stability during daily activity or sport
  • Muscle recovery post-injury
  • Postural awareness
  • Pain reduction and swelling management
Exercise Rehabilitation
Exercise rehab involves personalised, targeted movements prescribed by your osteopath to improve strength, mobility, and function. These exercises complement hands-on treatment and help support long-term results.
Common goals include:
  • Rebuilding strength after injury
  • Improving balance and stability
  • Enhancing flexibility and posture
  • Preventing future injuries
  • Supporting chronic pain managment
Muscle Energy Techniques (MET)
MET is a gentle, manual therapy technique where you
actively contract a muscle against resistance. It’s used to
lengthen tight muscles, improve joint movement and
restore natural function.
Helpful for:
  • Stiff joints and reduced mobility
  • Postural imbalances
  • Restoring normal muscle tone
  • Improving flexibility
HVLA Joint Adjustments & Manipulation
HVLA stands for High Velocity Low Amplitude, a
technique involving a quick, controlled movement to
restore joint mobility. It’s most often used in the spine or
neck and may produce a clicking sound. This technique is
only used when clinically appropriate and with full patient
consent.
Used to help with:
  • Stiff or restricted joints
  • Improving range of motion
  • Reducing localised discomfort
  • Enhancing nervous system function
Fascial Release
Fascial release targets the body’s connective tissue
(fascia), which can become tight or restricted after injury,
inflammation or long-term tension. Gentle, sustained
pressure is used to release restrictions and improve
mobility.
May assist with:
  • Chronic muscle tightness
  • Restricted range of motion
  • Recovery from overuse or injury
  • Rebalancing movement patterns
